This milky-white porcelain is highly prized for its rice-soup texture and is the work of Kakiemon I, a potter from Minamikawara in Hizen Province (Magarukawa, Arita Town, Nishimatsuura County, Saga Prefecture). It is said to have been made from the soil of the Iwayagawa River in Arita Township. The base is white and the glaze is thin and milky white, and delicate and robust overglaze painting is applied to it.
However, because of the nature of the raw material, it cannot be dyed, so there are no overglaze paintings on it.
