A tea utensil. It is used to hold the lid and ladle of the kettle. It can be made of bamboo, metal, or porcelain, and comes in a variety of shapes. The incense burner of the hoya (fire house) is sometimes used as a lid rest.
Celadon glazed lid rests are popular for IKKANJIN, MUKANJIN, SANNINJIN, YAGAKU, etc. In the case of red glazed ones, the IKKANJIN doll is replaced by a lion, SANBO with underglaze blue, and bamboo joints, etc. Shozui-kosihi-gami also come in a variety of shapes and sizes, including Seto and Raku ware.
