Ball-clay is a highly plastic clay, originally from Dorst and Devonshire in the United Kingdom. The meaning of the word “ball” is said to be due to the fact that it was mined and transported in a spherical shape, or that it was spherical and laid down to increase its plasticity. Nowadays, highly plastic clay is called ball clay in the U.S. as well. Therefore, frog clay and wood-bond clay in Japan correspond to this type of clay. (Ceramic Raw Materials)
