Raehin Mishima

Raehin Mishima

A Joseon Mishima handled vessel with three characters for “Reibinji”, two characters for “Raebin”, or four characters for “Raebinji”.
In the Goryeo Dynasty, the temple was a government office in charge of entertaining guests, and changed its name several times: from ministry of guests, to ministry of guests, to temple of guests, to temple of guests, to temple of guests, to temple of guests, and so on. The above-mentioned characters indicate that the item was made for the temple and was produced after the 17th year of King Taejong of the Yi Dynasty (1417). Japanese envoys of the Muromachi period (1336-1573) were received at this Reibin temple, so Reibin Mishima must have been known in Japan for a long time, and Mishima handles with white glazed inlays and characters, no matter what the characters were, were also called Reibin Mishima. Some of the reproductions in Japan also have the character “Reibin” on them.
