Chōjirō: incense burner with constricted mouth, black glaze

Height 6.4 cm, outer diameter 8.0 cm, bottom diameter 4.7 cm, tripod
On the cover of the inner box, Zuiryusai wrote “Kurokuchiyosekoroso Soza (Hanasho), black incense burner by Chojiro, owned by Rikyu”. The fact that a similar type of incense burner was also fired in Mino, as illustrated in “Japanese Ceramics”, Vol. 3, Kizeto and Setoguro, is interesting as it shows that Rikyu’s favorite works were fired both in Raku ware and Mino kilns during the Tensho period. It is interesting. The black yuzu is a unique kase-yuzu, similar to the yuzu of “Okuro” (a large black citron). It is made by hand, not by rasabiki, and has a thick and heavy handle with a trace of hasa on the outside.
