Important Cultural Property
Height 32.2cm, Bore 6.6cm, Body 25.2cm
The bottom diameter is 12.8cm. This large tsukkuri has a unique shape with a strongly stretched body. The combination of phoenixes and paulownia on the body is also unique, and was probably a special order item. Although the subject is a flying phoenix with a sharp beak, the composition of the tail ornately spread out to the left and right suggests a sense of commonality with uchikake and other designs from the Kanbun to Genroku periods, and the paulownia patterns of various sizes scattered around the tail are arranged in movement in accordance with the flying phoenix. The purple overglaze painting on the phoenix’s wings, which is rare for Kakiemon-style overglaze paintings, and the addition of gold paint make the painting even more gorgeous. There is a single mark on the base of the vase.
