In the Kakiemon style, nyushiro-te overglaze enameled porcelain without underglaze blue is generally more popular, but there are also excellent examples of some-nishiki-te, in which underglaze blue and overglaze blue are used together, such as this bowl. The low rim is rounded to form an eight-petaled flower ring, and the rim is coated with rust glaze to create a rim rouge.
The inside is decorated with a pattern of chrysanthemum branches and butterflies, while the outside is decorated with autumn flowers such as chrysanthemums, bellflowers, bellflowers, and vineflowers, all in underglaze blue and overglaze enamels.
The depiction of the flowers is very elegant, and the workmanship is similar to the Genroku-era Shibuemon-te type of Nishiki-te, so it is assumed to have been made around the Genroku period. A circle in underglaze blue is surrounded inside the base, and inside the circle is inscribed “Made in the year of the dawn of the new millennium,” which is rare for a work of this type. There is one small mark on the base of the stand.
