Victoria Albert Museum
This jar is from the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and is also featured in Jennings’ “Japanese Ceramics. Unlike most jars, this one has a slightly outward opening at the mouth and a richly stretched body from the shoulder to the body. The body depicts a tree with flowers and a peacock-like bird in it, and like the previous painting, it is somewhat old-fashioned, with purple paint applied to the trunk and flowers. It is thought to be older than the generally seen “agarwood vases”. It has a clear bamboo joint-shaped base on the bottom.
