Height 28.5 cm, mouth diameter 9.4 x 10.4 cm, bottom diameter 13.5 cm
This work is one of the “Five Men of the East,” and was once owned by the Aruga family. The open mouth is turned inward, and ears are attached on both sides from the tight neck to the body. The mouth and shoulders are covered with spatula lines in the style of Yamaji, with one, two, or three vertical spatula lines on each side. The underglaze ash glaze melts smoothly and the grass-green beadwork is vivid. Bizen and Iga vases have a body with a face, but rarely do they have a seven-faceted body. The bottom of the vase is flat, and the clay skin is hard and tight.
