This pair of neatly chamfered hexagonal vases was produced by order of the Dutch East India Company mainly during the Genroku period (1688-1704), and a representative example of this type was handed down from Queen Mary to Hampton Court Palace in England. The base is milk-white with chrysanthemum flowers painted in red, green, black, and gold, and an arabesque design in alternating red and gold on the upper neck. The entire piece is thinly molded with a slight tilt to the shape.
