This is a large circular dish with gently curving sides. The composition of seven tortoiseshell motifs on the entire surface, alternating crane circles and arabesque peony motifs within a three-layered frame, and chrysanthemum and running water motifs in the center is particularly noteworthy among Kogutani style color paintings that sought unique designs. On the reverse side, a large peony arabesque with flowers arranged on all four sides is freely displayed in purple and dark blue. Green overglaze blue is applied from the outer part of the base to the tatami mats. It is regrettable that the piece is heavily damaged.
