Height: 7.6 cm, Rim Diameter: 12.0–12.2 cm, Foot Diameter: 5.4 cm
This renowned bowl embodies all the hallmarks of Dōnyū’s style, featuring a rich, rounded form and an elegant design. The rim is thin and slightly curved inward, while the foot is flat with a sharp, carved indentation. Inside the foot, Dōnyū’s “Raku” seal is clearly stamped. A generous amount of glossy black glaze has been applied, leaving only the foot rim exposed, causing the glaze to flow down to the base of the bowl, forming glaze pools. The wide interior is also covered in glaze, and along the edges where the glaze breaks, a thin layer of snake-and-scorpion glaze forms, creating a pattern resembling a six-petaled flower—hence the name “Kikyo” (Bellflower). A slight trace of the snake-scorpion glaze also appears on the exterior, and the exposed foot section is coated with a thin layer of iron glaze, similar to the “Lion” piece in the Michi-iri series (Fig. 3). It is one of the “Nonko Kaga Seven Varieties.”
