This piece is also said to have been favored by Sensō and is renowned as a representative work of Ohi I. This water pitcher with a handle has a chunky, unrefined form that appears to be the work of an amateur, and features a spout on the body. The lid, which is a matching pair, has a shrimp-shaped knob on the front, while the body is decorated with irregular horizontal stripes, likely intended to represent flowing water. The entire piece is covered in amber glaze, which has melted well. The underside of the inner box lid bears the following inscription: “When His Imperial Highness came to the capital, I presented him with this water jar, saying, ‘When you miss me, look upon this.’ I was told that he replied, ‘I shall do the same when I miss you.’ This was reportedly the will of the founder, Chōzaemon. Recorded by the fourth-generation Kanbei, based on the story. Ichian Fugensai (seal).” According to legend, Sensō had two identical pieces made: he kept one for himself and left the other with Ōhi before departing. Many of the pieces in the Sensō style are characterized by this kind of truly innocent, chunky, and unrefined form.
