On the underside of the inner box lid, Chokusai has inscribed: “Made by Ichinyu, Red Tea Bowl, Tamayuki (signature).” Red tea bowls by Ichinyu are relatively rare. Among them, this piece, with its exposed clay and signature, stands out as an exceptional work. The slightly inward-curving rim naturally reveals Ichinyu’s distinctive touch, and the rim line undulates gently. It has the shape of a cylindrical tea bowl, with a deep interior and no tea pool. The footring is wide, the carving inside the footring is deep, and the outer side of the footring is also sharply carved. Furthermore, a single vertical chamfer has been applied to one side of the exterior body. It is a typical red Raku piece, made by applying yellow clay over red clay and then covering it with a transparent glaze; the glaze has a slight yellowish tint and is somewhat mottled. Meanwhile, the greenish-brown firing variation that occurred toward the base of the body extends inward. The character “Raku” is stamped inside the footring.
