Height 8.5cm, mouth diameter 9.0cm, base diameter 5.9cm
This is a small cylindrical tea bowl with a gently undulating mouth rim. The base is large in comparison with the shape of the bowl, and the tatami mat is wide. The inside of the stand is wide, and Sotan wrote a hana-seki (flower seal) in red lacquer inside. The semicircular “chadameuri” (tea tamenuri) is clearly marked on the surface of the bowl, and there are three marks on the tatami surface of the bowl.
The glaze is rather thick and the body is blackish, but the glazed surface is shiny as if it had been washed. It is housed in a tame-nuri curved inner box with an inscription by Sotan “Shikai 且” affixed to the back of the lid.
