Black Tea Bowl, Inscription: “Tsurezure,” by Ichinyu

Height: 8.4 cm, Mouth Diameter: 10.5 cm, Foot Diameter: 4.9 cm
This tea bowl has a style very similar to the ‘Hatsuyuki’ black tea bowl, but the foot rim is narrower than that of the “Hatsuyuki,” and the swirl pattern inside the foot is more subdued. This piece also uses clay rich in iron, mixed with Bizen clay. The black glaze is not very thick and has melted well, though it cannot be described as smooth. A red glaze forms a decorative pattern on part of the exterior. On the underside of the box lid, Ryoryo Sai has inscribed: “Black Tea Bowl by Ichinyu, ‘Tsurare’ (Seal).”
