This large jar has a shoulder band and the upper half of the neck has been polished away. The mouth rim has a large trumpet-shaped opening. The base is rich in sandy texture, and it was formed by rolling up a cord-work wheel. Parallel sunken lines are drawn on the upper edge and the center of the shoulder, and eight upward arcs are placed between the central sunken line. In addition, there are three meandering sunken lines between the central sunken line and the buttresses. It is one of the representative examples of Atsumi’s unique jars with lotus petals design, and the surface is blackened due to the reduction firing process. This is why it is called a “black jar.
