Aztec pottery is usually obtained from Tula, a city site dating to the Tolteca period (85-1250). Tula is located about 80 km north of Mexico City. The yellow-orange earthenware is unpolished but well-fired, with low three-footed vessels decorated with geometric and central-painterly designs. In the later period, animal and plant designs are also found. Some vessels were made in the high bowl style with curved sides, but these are from the 15th century onward.
