After treading the clay, place only the amount to be used on the kneading table prior to use, and knead the clay with both hands, putting weight on both arms. Both ends are folded into the center and kneaded in a pile. This is done to mix the hardness and softness of the clay completely and to increase the viscosity. It is quite hard work and one kneading makes one sweat, and one has to hold his breath two or three times for one kneading to be completed.
In Seto, it is called “O-oshi. The roughly kneaded clay is further rolled and kneaded. In Seto, this is called “twisting and pressing. Now, the molding process is ready to begin.
