The relatively short, wide-mouthed neck, slightly sloping shoulders, and the linearly tapering form toward the bottom suggest that this is an early 13th-century work. The three sunken lines on the body are a distinctive feature. The whiteish-white base with a high concentration of iron particles and the firing process suggest that it belongs to the Sanage ware category. The three stripes on the body are similar to those on the three stripes on Tokoname vases, but they were not created under the influence of Tokoname.
