Specialty. Raku ware tea bowl, one of the seven types of nonglaze ware. Named for its red glaze, which gives it the appearance of autumnal lightning.
This bowl has the Esen name. It was kept by the Omotesenke family for generations, and was not shown without permission except at alternative tea ceremonies of the head of the family. (Honcho Ceramic Novelogue, Taisho Meikikan)
