A great masterpiece. This tea caddy was made by Han. It is also known as Sumiyoshi kagatatsuki because it was in the possession of Sumiyoshiya Yamaoka Munenashi. It was used for tea ceremonies during the Eiroku and Tensho Bunroku periods (1558-196). Although there are some major repairs, it is a magnificent tea container of the Momoyama period. After Somu, it became the property of Satake Yoshinobu, and was passed back and forth between the shogunate, the Satake family, and the shogunate, until 1709, when it was received by the Owari Chunagon, and has been in the Owari family ever since. (Ganmon meibutsuki, Kokin meibutsu ryuju, Taisho meikikikan)
