A type of Korean tea bowl. The “Soba” is a type of Korean tea bowl. The “Gogakushu” says, “Soba” is a misnomer, and it is better to write “samae” (side). Originally, it meant the side of a well, so it should be written “samae” (side), but today the world uses “soba” (buckwheat cake), which is more elegant and cedar-shaped than the original “soba” (buckwheat). The name “soba-kasu” comes from the word “soba” (buckwheat), and is more elegant than “honte soba” (buckwheat noodle), and has a cedar shape. The name “ko-soba” is derived from the similarity in appearance, as in the case of a person’s face, where small dark dots are scattered about. The name “Soba” is nowadays rarely used, and is simply called “Soba” for short. (Taisho Meikikan)
