In a broad sense, it is a generic term for pottery other than porcelain, i.e., earthenware, pottery in the narrow sense of the word, and stoneware. In a broader sense, it is used as a generic term for pottery, as in “pottery merchant” or “pottery company. The term “pottery” is also applied to unglazed Sue ware of the Upper Period in Japan.
