Chukko masterpiece. Hafu Kiln Tea Caddy, Yoneichi Shohon-uta. It is named so because its shape resembles a bale in the Yoneichi kyogen play.
The mouth rim is thick and has little twist back, the steamer is concave, and the shoulder is taut. The entire body is bale-shaped, with a slightly concave body and a single sunken line. The yellow glaze has a deep depression at the base, revealing iron-toned clay below the base. The interior rim is glazed, and the wheel-thrown lines below the glaze form a whorl in the center. The lines are generally poorly executed, but because this is an anthem, there are many interesting features such as the yellow glaze and the dents, and it should be considered the best of its kind. This piece was originally owned by Kobori Enshu and entered the Konoike family in Osaka via Inaba Mino no Mamoru (see Meibutsu Ki, Konoike Family in Osaka).
