This vase is said to have been excavated from the vicinity of the Ono Dam on the upper reaches of the Yura River in northern Kyoto Prefecture. This wide-mouthed vase was made of sandy clay and has a three-tiered hagi-zukuri body, with the surface of the vessel polished and adjusted. It is fired by oxidizing iron and has a natural yellowish-brown glaze over a light red surface. This piece dates from the early Kamakura period and is an important document in the history of Tamba ceramics.
