This is a masterpiece that is regarded as one of the best examples of Shino incense containers. The flat surface of the lid is vividly painted in fountain blue. The shape is that of an incense container with an inro lid, and was probably modeled after the shape of incense containers made of Chinese lacquerware imported in the Muromachi period (1336-1573). The body and lid are well matched with each other. The Shino glaze applied to the entire surface of the body, except for the rim, is soft and melting, and the fire color from the sides to the bottom is vivid. The inside of the base is shallow and flat, and a small ring mark remains in the center. Formerly owned by the Hon Kano family.
