The painting looks like a fountain pen with fine lines. However, as the box is labeled “Kogai with a design of cranes,” it appears at first glance to be an orizuru (folded paper crane), but it is probably a representation of a floral design. The coloring of the painting is rather light, and the glaze over the entire surface melts softly and smoothly, with a beautiful faint reddish tinge on the sides and bottom. Many incense containers of this type seem to have a reddish tinge on the bottom of the body.
