Tea bowl of hakuan type, known as “Sōsetsu”

Tea bowl of hakuan type, known as "Sōsetsu"

Height 8.3cm, Bowl diameter 15.0cm, Base diameter 5.8cm
This is probably one of the most outstanding Hakuan tea bowls along with Hon-uta Hakuan and Okuda Hakuan. The shape of this bowl is similar to that of the Sekido family’s HON-UKA-HAKU-AN. The potter’s wheel is spacious, and the mouth is open at the edge of the bowl, while the base is neatly carved with a well-tightened bamboo joint. The base is not the one-sided thin base that is considered to be one of the promises of Hakuan. The thick yellow glaze is well melted into transparency. There are large and small penetrations on the entire surface, and the color is a faint loquat yellow glaze. The color is a faint loquat-tinged yellow glaze. The yellowish grayish-white clay is somewhat hardened.
The origin of the inscription “Sobusetsu” is not clear, but it probably belonged to a tea master named Sobusetsu in the past. It was later owned by either Tsuchiya Sagamimori or Daimonjiya Soseki, and was in the possession of the Mizoguchi family from around the Bunsei era (1818-1831).
