Height 8.2cm, mouth diameter 12.2cm, base diameter 5.9cm
This is a typical example of Seto black tea bowl. The body of “Oharaki,” which is said to be the first Setoguro masterpiece owned by Rikyu, has a vertical spatula pattern on the body, and the base of the bowl is also varied, adding an element of so-called Oribe’s taste. This Setoguro teacup is wheel-thrown neatly, and the base of the bowl is a shaved base close to the tenmoku (the top of the bowl). It is a very straightforward work with almost no spatula use as a Setoguro bowl, and can be considered as one of the best representative of the early Setoguro style. The glaze is well blended to a jet-black color, and the glaze is also applied carelessly, showing the clay around the base. The front of the box is inscribed “Seto Black Tea Bowl” and the back of the box is inscribed “Came from Takemoto Sotokiden in the 9th year of Genna”.
