The lid, which is dropped over the mouth, has a knob with a lion holding a bead on a string, and holes are drilled on all four sides for smoke ventilation. The bottom has animal-faced legs on all four sides, and the bottom and legs are covered with feldspar glaze, while the entire exterior is covered with green glaze. On the side of the lion knob on the front of the lid is inscribed “Kato Saemon, Atuta Grand Shrine” and on the side of the body is inscribed “Atuta Grand Shrine, Yoshiday September, Keicho 77th year, Kato Saemon, donation. It is a valuable material for speculating on the date of manufacture and style of Oribe ware. The glazed surface is softly fired.
