This hanaume has a rounded, twisted mouth in the shape of a jade gourd with a narrowed neck and a widened body with ears on either side of the neck. The bottom is flat, and part of the body has a mesh and comb pattern. The entire surface is covered with a thick and thin layer of ame glaze. The workmanship is similar to that of a water jar with a black candy glaze excavated from the valley of a potter’s shop in Karatsu, and is a rare example that suggests the exchange of techniques between the two.
