This piece was excavated from the Motoyashiki kiln in Mino. It is a unique piece among the more than 20,000 pieces of pottery excavated from Motoyashiki, and was excavated in almost perfect form.
It is a flower vase with a twisted mouth and a flat bottom. The overall workmanship is poor and does not seem to have been made by a skilled potter from a former mansion. The painted pine tree is similar to the painted karatsu in the valley of a jar shop, and may have been made as an afterthought by a craftsman from Karatsu. Because of its Karatsu-like style, it is commonly called Mino Karatsu.
