This tea bowl is called Nakao Karatsu. It is said to have belonged to Korekan Nakao, but it is not clear why the names Nakao and Korekan were separated. Nakao karatsu is more oxidized and has a loquat-colored skin than Korekan karatsu “Sanpo,” but the basic style is the same. The middle one has a more rustic appearance because it does not have a step at the waist. The thick base is low and large, and the glazed surface on the inner surface and around the outer rim has rough penetrations, and there are traces of glazed fingers touching the sides of the base with glaze, and the glaze has flaked in two places. The shallowly pitted interior is thickly glazed and shriveled in the shape of a plum blossom peel, and three eye marks remain. The Nezu Museum also has a tea bowl known as Nakaotsu, but the workmanship is quite different. The relationship between this type of karatsu bowl and Korehann Nakao is not clear. This type of Karatsu tea bowl and Korekan Karatsu came to the Konoike family in Osaka, Japan.
