In the latter half of the 5th century, the electric heater was introduced along with the introduction of Sue ware and became established in western Japan as a combination of a handled pot and a large jar. In the Kofun period, small temporary vessels modeled after the Den were often offered to the dead, and in the Nara period (710-794), even smaller imitations of the Den were made for ritual use. Three such vessels were found among many other artifacts on Ohbishima Island.
