This beautifully shaped, easily erected Tokutoshi has been brushed on the base, roughly patterned with iron pigments and vitriol, and fired with a white glaze over the mouth. This is an outstanding example of this type of work, commonly called nisai karatsu. It was probably fired in the Yakimine kiln of the Takeo family.
