Height 17.0 cm, mouth diameter 22.4 x 26.9 cm, bottom diameter 19.9 cm.
The overall workmanship is thin, and the hard, dark-brown clay rot has a glossy luster and a thick sesame glaze. This type of Bizen ware is called “Ibe-Te. There are two types of Ibe Te: those with a coated clay base and those without, but this water jar appears to have been coated.
This water jar has a distinctly wheel-thrown diamond shape, and has long been called an “ouboshi-bako,” which is a rare type of water jar in the ouboshi style. The sharply ridged mouth rim is distorted. The body is covered with sesame glaze inside and out, with a single streak of sesame glaze on each side of the body. The prospective surface is also covered with ash, but one rounded hole is clearly visible. A “Ya” mark is spatula-engraved on the flat bottom. On the front of the box lid, “Hisen ehoshi mizusashi” is inscribed in the handwriting of Kanamori Munekazu, which is typical of his work.
