Height 18.5 cm, mouth diameter 10.5 x 23.3 cm
Since the Higashiyama period (710-794), boat-shaped tsurikase vases made of sand-covered Chinese lacquerware have been highly prized. Bizen made a copy of it. This piece is in the Ibe style, but it has an old style, and may be of an older age. Both are made in the same manner as the boat-shaped tsuri-kasei made in the sand-bari style, and are probably part of a group of tea ceremony utensils copied from Chinese ceramics. The outside and inside of the vase are coated with a sesame glaze, and the entire piece is neatly molded.
