This is a short-necked jar with a rather long mouth and neck and a lid, to which a long, thin tripod was carved. Most examples have been excavated from burial mounds in Kyushu, but there are also examples from Gifu Prefecture, so it is difficult to say that this jar is rich in regional characteristics. It is made of pebbled clay and wheel-thrown, and the surface of the jar is shaped with oyakime. The lid is a flat disk with an open cylindrical cord at the top, and on the back of the lid is a cylindrical hanging object 1.5 cm in diameter and 3 cm long. It may serve as a kind of weight. The legs are long and slender, and are warped with a broad base. The ware is extremely solid and the surface is dark brown.
Many cups and shallow bowl-shaped vessels with three legs have been excavated from Baekje tombs, but none of them have long legs like this vessel, which has short legs with narrow ends. We should refrain from immediately connecting the two at this time.
