The mouth is triangular and the hips are round. The flat bottom has a small, rounded clay base that looks as if it were hand-turned. The outer and inner surfaces are covered with a yellowish-green ash glaze, and the clay skin is hard and reddish. The base is flat and has a thick row of sumac patterns around it. It is thought to be a Shigaraki ware of the early Edo period. It is said to have belonged to Ogata Korin. On the front of the box lid, the character “Shikaraki” is written in gold-painted characters, which is said to have been written by Ogata Soken, Ogata’s father.
