This tea jar is recognized as an Important Art Object and was clearly made for use as a tea pot. The mouth rim is rounded and twisted, with ears on the four sides of the shoulder, and the taut body has a well-defined form. The inscription on the front of the pot is spatula-engraved with the words “Kami: Yoshi Tachikumura Tokuzaemon, March 1st in the first year of the Kan’ei era,” and the entire outside surface, except for the bottom, is covered in black ame glaze. This is another valuable material for speculating on the style of Tamba ware of the Kan’ei period.
