This is an extremely rare example of this type of work. A similar piece is described in Yamashita Sakuro’s book “Early Imari”. It is a gourd-shaped sake cup with a strongly bulging body and a rounded bead-like pattern on the shoulder, and the body is striped in the itome style. The body is striated in the itome style, with lapis lazuli glaze applied from the mouth to the shoulders, a thin celadon glaze applied around the shoulders, and iron glaze applied to the body. This is a rare example of a combination of various Arita techniques, but it is not known where it was fired. It is not known where it was made. It is thought to have been produced after the Kan’ei period, but it is not known when.
