This barrel-shaped vessel, commonly referred to as a square barrel, was probably exported as a wine bottle and was recently imported from Europe. The body is decorated on three sides with a window in the shape of shikishi (colored paper) with a landscape design inside, and on the ground, a pine needle-like pattern is drawn in fine lines, with paulownia or diamond-shaped patterns in between. The landscape design within the window is in line with that of Ko-kutani, and here, too, a connection with Ko-kutani can be discerned. This is an Arita red painting from before the Kanbun period.
