Height 33.0cm Tripod
Tanakamaru Collection
This is a candlestick with a lion’s mesh at the base of the tripod. The long tube is shaped like a bamboo with joints, and a flower-shaped plate is attached to the head. The five-petaled dish is decorated with red petals, and the pole is covered with wisteria flowers. The milky-white porcelain is slightly under-fired, and the purple and green on the demon’s face are dull in coloration. Although at first glance it looks old-fashioned, the delicate wisteria flowers and other details suggest that it was made around the Genroku period. According to legend, it was found in the grave site (Sofukuji Temple) of Tsunamasa, the fourth lord of the Chikuzen Kuroda domain, who left it on April 18, Shotoku 1, 1868.
