This is one of the typical designs of Nabeshima in overglaze enamels, as is the 7″ dish with a peony arabesque design. This design is probably a decorative version of the peony design, but it is generally called arabesque.
The reverse side is decorated on three sides with an arabesque design centering on a six-petaled flower design, and the base is a comb-shaped base. The back side is decorated with arabesque patterns on three sides, centering on a six-petaled flower design, and the base is a comb-shaped base. The arabesque design on the five sides and the star-shaped central margin are interesting and skillfully designed. Both the underglaze blue and overglaze blue are beautifully colored, especially the green overglaze pigment.
