Bowl diameter 15.4 x 12.7 cm
This is an excellent piece of Ko-Nabeshima mukozuke plate, estimated to have been made in the Minamigawara period. Small plates in the shape of water chestnuts are sometimes seen in Ko-Nabeshima, but all of them are characterized by their strong shape and dark colors in both underglaze and overglaze enamels.
The seven white camellia flowers are arranged horizontally, and the ground is colored in underglaze blue with a white gauze pattern, but the sumi-hajime technique, considered a secret of Nabeshima, has already been used. The camellia flowers and stamens are colored in deep yellow and the leaves in green, and the back is decorated with a Kakiemon-style octopus arabesque pattern centering on peony flowers on three sides, with an unparalleled wave-head design on the base.
