This is a representative celadon blue-and-white shaku-plate. Although it can be said that the Okawachi Domain’s kilns were mainly known for their iroe Nabeshima ware, there are many excellent works of this type that combine celadon and underglaze blue and white porcelain, and the harmony between celadon and underglaze blue and white porcelain has opened a new frontier not seen in other kilns. Moreover, the patterns are all unified in elegant Japanese style. The overall design, which is divided into four sections in a horizontal line, with two tiers of celadon and two tiers of blue sea waves in underglaze blue alternating with a water wheel, is similar to the dyeing and weaving designs of the Kanbun and Genroku periods, and is a skillful incorporation of dyeing and weaving designs. On the reverse side, a peony design with long arabesque leaves is arranged, and the base is covered with a cloisonne pattern.
