From the late 7th to the early 8th century, so-called “four-ear jars” with four circular ears on the shoulders flourished in various regions. There are two types of four-ringed jars: short-necked jars with a long body like this one and Shosoin-style jars. This vessel is thought to have been made in the latter half of the 7th century, judging from the lid with a pointed flat knob in the center, the inflection on the shoulder of the body, and the fact that the body still retains some roundness. It is well fired, with a white natural glaze on the shoulder.
