This is a large dish in the shape of a gourd with a red rim, the rim of which rises low. Kikutaro Saito estimates that this design is based on one in the “Eight Kinds of Painting” published in the late Ming (1368-1644) Tenkei period (1644-1644). The four sides are framed in indigo with a white-necked mokuremon pattern, within which two birds are painted in red, and the ground is clearly marked with cloisonné, shiho-dasuki, and other band designs in the vertical and horizontal directions. On the reverse side, peony patterns are depicted in underglaze blue on the four sides, and dark blue overglaze painting is applied from the front to the back on the inside corner, probably to hide a mountain defect. There are three marks around the seal script characters written in the double corners of the base.
