This is a representative masterpiece of the Ko-Kutani style of inlaid medium color plates, and is currently in existence as a set of six pieces together with Figures 38, 40, and others. Although it is not known whether or not there were originally six plates in the same set, they were once in the collection of the Nagao Art Museum. Each of them is an outstanding example of this type of medium-sized plate in the shape of a ring flower, and can be said to be a typical example of this type. The composition of the pair of mandarin ducks is a rare example of the glamour of Japanese colored porcelain, and is an exquisite example of pictorial craftsmanship. On the reverse side, a peony arabesque with leaves extending out on both sides is painted on two sides, and the inscription “Fuku” is written in the corner inside the base.
